Engineering Services supports the City’s overall purpose by delivering a range of public works services. Street Operations Workers are responsible for maintaining and constructing city streets, lanes, and sidewalks.
Workers perform general construction tasks such as concrete finishing, form setting, boulevard restoration, drain‑tile installation, asphalt raking and conduit installation, as well as maintenance duties including pressure washing, bridge painting and pothole repair. The work is performed outdoors, in all weather conditions, and is physically demanding.

Regular hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of shift or location changes to meet operational needs and collective‑agreement requirements. Candidates must pass an annual fit test, wear respirators as required, and ensure jewelry, long hair or facial hair do not interfere with the respirator seal.
A high school diploma (or equivalent) and some laboring experience in construction are required; experience with asphalt, concrete, bridge maintenance or working at heights is considered an asset. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of safe work procedures, tools, equipment and the functions of Street Operations, and possess the physical strength, stamina and coordination to lift, push, pull heavy objects and work continuously in high‑traffic, high‑hazard environments.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence (or higher) and a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record are mandatory, with limits on demerit points and preventable accidents. Applicants must provide an ICBC Commercial Driving Records Abstract and ICBC Insurance and Claims History covering the past five years (or equivalent documents from previous jurisdictions).
The position is a regular full‑time role within Engineering Services (Business Unit 1300), affiliated with CUPE 1004 N/Pks, starting March 2026. Fourteen positions are available at a pay grade of GR‑310 ($35.25 per hour).
