May meet with clients on a regular basis to provide project updates
Builds knowledge of industry terms, processes and procedures through mentoring and self-learning.
Organizes and maintains project files.
Works in an effective and efficient manner to assist in completing projects on time and under budget.
Assists with quantity take offs and engineers estimates for roadway resurfacing projects and other minor capital improvements including bid items and specifications.
Continually improves and develops knowledge of IDOT and Local Agency requirements through experience and self-learning.
Maintains a consistent and dependable schedule.
Follows the Department QA/QC process for all projects.
Applies principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering technology as they relate to the private development plan review of drainage and stormwater systems, water main systems, sanitary sewer systems, erosion control and roadway construction.
Effectively communicates project status and timelines with supervisor, colleagues, and project partners on a daily and/or weekly basis via 1-on-1 conversations, emails, or team meetings.
May coordinate with contractors on the development sites.
Assists with site inspections of private developments and single-family homes.

Continually improves and develops an understanding and familiarity with how project budgets are created and executed.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent.

Experience with software applications including MicroStation, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or AutoCAD, preferred.
Ability to complete tasks independently and efficiently.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Engineer in Training (EIT) license in the State of Illinois, or ability to get it within 12 months.
2-5 years of experience with job-related work (full-time, part-time, internship), preferred.
