The role involves managing and supporting project delivery across the Intermountain Region, ideally with extensive experience in municipal water, wastewater, or reuse projects. You will grow technical and project‑management skills, mentor engineers, and receive guidance from senior mentors. The position may evolve into broader client development and management responsibilities, backed by local and firm‑wide resources.

Core duties include leading municipal water/wastewater/reuse facility planning and design, preparing assessment and design reports, performing calculations and equipment sizing, producing construction documents, and supporting construction management and commissioning. Fieldwork and site visits from planning through construction are expected, with occasional travel.

• Engagement with professional societies and similar organizations by participating in meetings and conferences

Requirements

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a qualified and experienced Principal Engineer/Senior Principal Engineer (PE/SPE) to join the team full‑time to support the design and construction of water and wastewater facilities in Utah. We work on diverse municipal projects and deliver high‑level service and expertise. As a PE/SPE you will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients on status and deliverables, requiring excellent communication, strong technical experience, and a solid work ethic.

The successful applicant will be a licensed professional engineer with a solid background in water and wastewater facility design, strong communication abilities, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with standard engineering software.

Additional assets include project‑management experience in the Utah market, an advanced degree, a proven record of leading successful project teams, supervisory and client‑coordination abilities, and experience supporting proposal preparation and interview participation.

• 5‑15+ years of relevant experience with facility and infrastructure design
• Registered PE in Utah (or obtain reciprocity within 12 months)
• Bachelor of Science in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience delivering water, wastewater, and/or reuse facility projects from preliminary design through construction
• Demonstrated strong work ethic and efficient work methods
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in standard software platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, etc.)
• Strong organizational skills
• Project Management or Task Management experience in the Utah market for water/wastewater/reuse facilities projects
• Master of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
• Documented experience managing multiple successful project teams delivering high quality projects while meeting schedule and budget goals
• Experience supervising, coordinating, mentoring, and reviewing work by staff
• Experience communicating and coordinating with clients
• Experience supporting proposal preparation and participating in interviews
