The Finance Specialist position is a non‑exempt role reporting to a Supervisor. The specialist is responsible for reviewing and analyzing Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) for residents in NMA’s property listings, proactively identifying potential errors and duplicate payments, and communicating findings to the Operations Department to improve reporting accuracy and HAP disbursements.
The role includes reviewing manual adjustment requests for accuracy and developing a working understanding of the legacy system and other applications to detect errors and duplicate payments. Building collaborative relationships with Operations Department teams is essential for resolving ledger reporting issues and interpreting accounts.
The position requires proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications, especially advanced Excel skills, strong written communication for technical documentation, and the ability to explain technical issues in lay terms. Experience with public housing programs or financial systems, self‑motivation, organizational skills, and a detail‑oriented, analytical mindset are preferred.
Candidates must hold a four‑year degree from a regionally accredited institution in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Excellent spreadsheet and database abilities, along with strong general computer skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, are required.
