Sr. Construction Manager (Airport)

Description

• Review TOS acquisition submittal packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with LAWA Design & Construction Handbook (DCH).
• Ensure contractor compliance with contractual obligations, technical requirements, procurement schedules, and special notices (NTP, BOAC Actions, TOC, SC, etc.).
• Prepare monthly risk reports and monitor adherence to QA/QC documentation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop construction management staff.
• Coordinate with all airport stakeholders to support project administration, engineering, technical, and closeout activities.
• Manage shop drawing reviews, mockup requirements, and factory/site acceptance testing.
• Collaborate closely with the Design Manager to resolve design issues and ensure compliance.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, punch lists, and ensure timely completion of all closeout documentation.
• Lead preconstruction and weekly project meetings; document decisions and action items.
• Draft NTP letters and supporting documentation including supplemental conditions.
• Prepare reports summarizing project progress for senior management.
• Ensure all work is performed and inspected according to the latest drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs.
• Review contractor pay applications for accuracy and contract compliance.
• Liaise with Airport Operations, Facilities Maintenance & Utilities, CDD, Planning, IMT, Shutdown Control Center (SCC), Airport Police Division, and Inspection teams.
• Review Change Proposals for contractual compliance and fair market value.
• Maintain effective working relationships with design and construction professionals, promoting open communication and collaborative problem-solving.
• Monitor Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) permitting activities.
• Enforce LAWA DCH requirements and track approved revisions or deviations.
• Manage submittal and RFI workflows to ensure timely resolution.
• Identify, anticipate, and resolve conflicts in design, construction, commissioning, operations, and safety.
• Manage project scope to meet or exceed program objectives.
• Provide oversight, direction, and management of assigned projects to ensure safe, compliant, and on-schedule delivery within or below budget.
• Facilitate design-related building modification requests and manage exemption request reviews and approvals.
• Work with team members and airport management to develop project budgets, schedules, and implementation plans.
• Facilitate ASR and USR meetings to review execution plans prior to SCC applications.

Requirements

• Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
• Ability to interface with diverse technical and professional backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a project management capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Aviation, Business, Planning, or a related technical field (required).
• Other relevant professional certifications
• Familiarity with Project Management Information Systems
• Proactive, results-oriented, and able to assume additional responsibilities
• Experience with Design-Bid-Build, Design-CMAR, and Design-Build delivery methods.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of construction industry practices and regulations
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Experience overseeing projects valued at $50 million or more.
• Ability to work in CAD or Revit (preferred)
• 15+ years of Construction Management experience, preferably in large airport environments.
