The OSP Engineer role supports telecommunications infrastructure projects by designing, planning, and implementing outside plant (OSP) networks for copper and fiber. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering, permitting, and construction‑coordination experience while managing budgets and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
Key responsibilities include designing aerial, buried, and conduit OSP facilities; preparing engineering drawings and loop‑loss calculations; conducting field measurements; developing project budgets and monitoring costs; preparing permit packages; coordinating with municipal officials and other utilities; updating CAD and tracking tools; and supporting contractors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
Candidates should have 3–5+ years of hands‑on copper and fiber optic network engineering experience and at least 5 years in OSP‑related work, including permitting and record management. Proficiency with Frontier tools such as FROGS, Varasset, and SiteTracker, strong project‑management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with officials, contractors, and cross‑functional teams are required. Willingness to travel locally (mileage reimbursed) and residence within one hour of Freeport, IL are mandatory.
