Senior Director, M&A

Description

The Senior Director, M&A is a critical leadership role driving MEI’s growth through strategic acquisitions across distributed generation, utility‑scale solar, and energy storage. Reporting to the EVP, M&A, the role leads cross‑functional teams, partners across the organization, and directly closes high‑impact transactions, while anchoring the acquisition platform in the New York office.

• Co‑manage the project acquisition process across all lines of business and supervise mid‑level and junior staff in New York.
• Serve as primary commercial contact for developers and project partners throughout acquisitions.
• Design transaction structures with Business Development and lead due diligence and closing activities.
• Collaborate with legal to draft, negotiate, and execute high‑quality, bankable agreements.
• Train new team members on diligence, modeling, and project work, delegating tasks and overseeing deliverables.
• Create and implement strategies to streamline acquisition processes while maintaining rigorous diligence.
• Drive innovation, process enhancements, and act as a change agent across the organization.
• Promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and best practices to build a robust acquisition ecosystem.

Requirements

• Own financial modeling and commercial negotiations from LOI to closing.
• Broad knowledge of renewable energy, including distributed generation, utility‑scale solar, and storage, with deep expertise in at least one area.
• Proven track record leading multiple transactions through financial close, including diligence, document negotiation, and stakeholder coordination.
• Demonstrated leadership of cross‑functional deal teams, people management, and process improvement.
• Strong familiarity with renewable‑energy transactional and legal terminology and success managing complex projects.
• Solid understanding of core business processes and renewable‑energy financing.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, especially for legal contracts and DCF models.
• Ability to manage broad deliverables, prioritize, and execute efficiently.
