The CNC Operator is responsible for running CNC machines to manufacture high-quality parts while complying with safety, ISO, quality, and housekeeping standards. The role requires a blend of computer, machinery, and product-creation expertise.
A typical day includes reading calipers and CNC print drawings with tolerance to .000, completing quality and daily inspection forms, and using hand tools such as air guns, wrenches, and drill presses.
Operators calculate appropriate speeds and feeds based on material, validate machine programs and work instructions before machining, and document actions through work order routings. They work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, report problems to management, and strive to meet production goals while adhering to safety policies. Functional knowledge of FANUC and Mazak CNC controls is required, and additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Success in this position is supported by the ability to operate one or more machines, understand machine controls (start, stop, emergency-stop), and apply strong math skills for precise dimension entry. Analyzing blueprints and technical documents, leveraging computer software for machine control, maintaining equipment, and solving process issues are also critical.
