Prepare memoranda and correspondence.
Operate and maintain the meteorological instrumentation and GPS within the GMAP vehicle;
Implementing the Department’s Geospatial Measurement of Air Pollution (GMAP) program. The GMAP program involves the use of a motor vehicle equipped with air pollution analyzers, meteorological instrumentation, and GPS to conduct mobile enforcement screening and community-based monitoring of criteria air pollutants, air toxics, and greenhouse gases. The GMAP program plays an important role in enhancing the Department’s responsiveness to residents’ air quality concerns and in advancing the Department’s commitment to community engagement and environmental justice/equity.
Assist in establishing community-based air quality monitoring programs;
Respond to public complaints of potential air pollution incidents;
Conduct inspections of certain sources of air pollution;
Operate and maintain the Investigation Unit’s GMAP vehicle;
Operate, maintain, and calibrate the air pollution analyzers within the GMAP vehicle;
Gather, synthesize, and prepare GMAP-acquired air quality data for supervisory review;
Conducting inspections in response to public complaints.
Attend classroom training, workshops, seminars, or meetings to maintain and grow knowledge of the latest technology, information, and research within the field of air monitoring and GMAP;
Assist in developing emerging uses for the GMAP instrumentation;
Assist in conducting public outreach and participating in air quality workshops;
Conduct acceptance testing of new equipment and prepare reports on findings;
Participate in programs that promote environmental justice and equity;
Prepare inspection reports;
Maintain an inventory of spare parts, calibration gases, and other expendables necessary for the operation of the GMAP instrumentation;
Validate GMAP-acquired data;

Professional experience or academic coursework in the interpretation, application, and enforcement of air pollution control statutes, regulations, and permits;

Experience gathering, organizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and presenting data sets utilizing mapping applications;
Experience reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, and service manuals.
This position receives training under the direction of a supervisor or senior staff for a period of one year. Promotion to Environmental Protection Air Pollution Control Engineer 1 will occur after successful completion of the training program.
Professional experience or completion of a bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline, or atmospheric science discipline;
Professional experience or academic coursework in the principles and practices of air pollution control;
Ability to utilize computer software.
Skill in the use of drafting and calculating instruments;
Experience communicating technical, regulatory, and policy information pertaining to the air quality field to audiences verbally and in writing;
This position will require infrequent out-of-state travel for training and to attend regional and national work groups and conferences.
Knowledge of basic engineering theories, principles and methods;
Considerable ability to perform mathematical computations, making neat and accurate drawings and preparing minor design and structural details;
Experience installing, operating, calibrating, repairing, or maintaining air pollution monitoring equipment;
This position will require routine in-state travel in support of the unit's work, e.g., conducting on-site inspections.

Thirteen (13) paid holidays each calendar year. Employees who are requested to work as part of a regular schedule on a “premium” holiday (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day) shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half for hours worked in addition to regular pay for the day.
