As our New Mobility Practice Lead, you will be responsible for the continued growth and success of one of our signature service areas focused on advancing transportation options, sustainability, and equity through emerging and non-traditional modes of travel. You will help cultivate existing and new client relationships that expand our practice. You'll use a variety of communications platforms to elevate fresh ideas related to shared micromobility, new modes, electrification, connected and automated vehicles, smart technology, mobility hubs, curbside design, and more. You will oversee the delivery of New Mobility projects and help support and train staff across the U.S. on innovative research, evaluation, planning, policy, and design solutions that keep our New Mobility practice at the leading edge of the industry.
- Leverage your network to build client relationships and partnerships that expand our reputation in New Mobility across North America.
- Bring forward ideas that expand our New Mobility service offerings in new directions and pilot fresh approaches.
- Mentor and support other team members in expanding their New Mobility expertise and business development capabilities.
- Be a vocal representative of the company on social media and at conferences, to help advance an innovative point of view related to shared, electric, and emerging modes of travel.
- Identify future/upcoming opportunities, lead proposals and interviews, support teaming decisions, and guide overall pursuit strategy.
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality projects involving New Mobility research, evaluation, planning, policy, and design.
- Collaborate with company leadership to implement a short- and long-term strategy for the growth and success of the New Mobility practice.
- Understand the importance of measuring impact and using data to tell compelling stories.

Toole Design Group is seeking an experienced and visionary New Mobility Practice Lead to join our team full-time. Are you passionate about helping communities improve people's access to shared and electric mobility? Do you have experience integrating emerging technologies and smart tech into local and regional transportation systems? Are you helping lead the industry on transformative topics like mobility hubs, micromobility design, and curbside management? If so, we encourage you to apply.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in urban planning, engineering, public policy, transportation, or related field.
- Knowledge of active transportation or multimodal transportation planning and design.
- Proven experience with business development: cultivating clients and securing new contracts or work through your professional network and/or via strategies that you championed.
- Deep understanding of local, regional, and state government operations and how new/emerging modes of travel are integrated into existing transportation systems.
- Experience with proposal writing and/or grant applications.
- Robust administrative and operations support, including IT, accounting, legal, and HR.
- At least 5 years of project management, including serving as the primary point of contact with clients on large and complex projects.
- At least 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, including significant work in micromobility, shared mobility, emerging modes, and sustainable transportation strategies.
- Ability to occasionally flex and support other practice areas as needed (e.g., transit, safety, Safe Routes to School, TDM, trails & greenways, active transportation, design guidelines, and more).
- Current familiarity with federal funding programs and policy related to New Mobility and transportation.
- Thrive on shaping new initiatives and building practices from their early phases.
- Involvement with national professional organizations and experience presenting at national conferences.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
BenefitsWork Schedule and Compensation
This is a full-time, flexible position (40 hours/week), that works a hybrid schedule out of any of our offices, with up to 2 remote days per week. All of our offices are easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
Target salary range for Portland: $125,000 - $165,000. Candidates at the high end demonstrate exceptional expertise and nationwide industry leadership.
