Overview
1963
Year Founded
The firm was established in 1963 as a small engineering consultancy in Quebec.
gradually expanding its expertise across numerous disciplines.
Over five decades, the firm evolved into a multidisciplinary powerhouse, tackling projects in building systems, transportation, water and environmental infrastructure.
gbi has designed notable projects such as Canada’s first carbon‑zero school and acted as lead consultant on the eco‑innovative Royalmount district in Montréal.
The firm delivers end‑to‑end services—from conceptual engineering and BIM planning to commissioning and optimization—on both public and private mandates.
With a reputation for integrating advanced mechanical, electrical, civil and environmental solutions, gbi often leads in complex, sustainability‑focused engagements.
Its projects range from stormwater and wastewater treatment systems, municipal roads, airports and port infrastructure, to fire protection, lighting and energy‑conservation systems.
Despite its technical breadth, gbi stands out by pioneering low‑energy building practices early, long before decarbonization became mainstream.
