Under the direction of the Patient Access Registration Manager, this position is primarily responsible for insurance notification, verification, and authorization activities necessary to financially secure accounts. It involves interacting with insurance companies, patients, physician offices, and other hospital departments to thoroughly document accounts. The role also explains financial requirements to patients or responsible parties and collects deposits or deductibles as required.
Key duties include performing insurance notification, verification, and authorization for inpatient, ambulatory surgery, and bedded outpatient admissions using the HQ work list as the primary driver. Work is prioritized based on financial risk and difficulty. Coordination with referring physicians, hospital clinical staff, and insurance companies ensures scheduled accounts are secured prior to admission and non‑scheduled accounts are secured within 24 hours post‑admit.
The position is full‑time, day‑shift, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and is 100 % remote. Schedule may change based on hospital census and business needs. The selected candidate must reside within 100 miles of Birmingham, AL.
Required qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent and 1–3 years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include a typing speed of at least 35 WPM, familiarity with medical terminology, and CPAR or CHAA certification.
The annual salary range for this position is $38,000–$64,000, with compensation decisions reflecting skill sets, experience, training, clearances, licensure, certifications, and other business needs.
