The engineer will work closely with roadway designers, planners, and senior traffic engineers to produce high-quality traffic plans and technical documentation. Responsibilities include signal and intelligent transportation system design, signing, pavement marking, work-zone traffic control, and supporting DOT and municipal projects.
- Perform traffic engineering and design for roadway, intersection, and corridor improvements.
- Prepare traffic signal, communication, signing, pavement marking, and work-zone control plans per MUTCD and state standards.
- Draft technical memoranda, reports, and documentation for DOT and municipal clients.
- Coordinate traffic design with roadway, drainage, and planning teams to ensure integration.
- Apply DOT, MUTCD, and local agency standards to all design tasks.
- Assist senior engineers with data collection and field observations.
- Participate in client meetings and coordinate with reviewing agencies.

Successful candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (ABET-accredited), preferably have EIT certification, and possess 0-4+ years of traffic engineering experience with DOT or municipal projects. Required skills include proficiency with traffic design software (MicroStation, ORD, AutoCAD), knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO and state standards, strong communication, teamwork, and a valid driver’s license.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- EIT certification preferred.
- 0–4+ years of traffic engineering experience supporting DOT or municipal projects.
- Proficient in traffic design software such as MicroStation, ORD, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
- Familiar with traffic signal design, signing, pavement marking, and traffic operations concepts.
- Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT standards (NCDOT experience a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
