- Mentor and develop junior/mid-level engineering staff, supporting accreditation with bodies such as ICE, IStructE, etc.
- Ensure compliance and assurance of all geotechnical design outputs.
- Serve as the technical authority, ensuring governance, design assurance, and compliance.
- Promote innovation, value engineering, and digital design solutions.
- Produce safe, efficient designs balancing capital cost and long-term operational value.
- Support procurement and pre-contract works with specialist technical input.
- Ensure adherence to CDM, health & safety, and environmental legislation.
- Oversee and deliver geotechnical design for both temporary and permanent works, ensuring safety, buildability, cost-effectiveness and technical excellence.
- Liaise with site teams, offering expert guidance and oversight.
- Contribute to and lead initiatives for value engineering and digitalisation.
- Share lessons learned and promote best practice across the design teams.
- Provide mentorship and professional development support to design staff.

We are representing a leading UK construction firm seeking an experienced Geotechnical Principal Design Engineer to join their growing Engineering Design team.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and geotechnical / structural analysis software.
- Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification).
- Chartered status (ICE preferred) or working towards it.
- Strong technical knowledge: soil mechanics, soil-structure interaction, construction methods.
- Significant experience in geotechnical design, ideally with exposure to both temporary works and permanent works.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, problem solving abilities.
