The Strategic Communications Coordinator will join the global Strategic Communications practice in HDR’s Charleston, South Carolina office. Reporting to Communications Managers and Project Managers, the coordinator will support client projects by developing and managing communication and engagement activities across a variety of infrastructure initiatives.
Key duties include writing copy for talking points, media releases, social media, and video scripts; coordinating public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions; handling meeting logistics, vendor relationships, and work‑back schedules; and producing outreach materials such as newsletters, websites, handouts, and press releases. The role also involves collaborating with social‑media, web, graphics, and video specialists, managing stakeholder lists and comment databases, and documenting outreach activities for reporting.
Applicants must have at least three years of relevant industry experience, strong written and verbal communication, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to juggle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines. A self‑starter attitude, proficiency with social media platforms and Microsoft Office, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are essential. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications, experience in government or infrastructure sectors (transportation, water, power), willingness to travel up to 15%, and the ability to drive to project sites.
