Power Electronics Engineer

Description

The power electronics engineer will shape product features and vision, designing converters and inverters across a broad power range, creating test plans, validating prototypes, and collaborating with mechanical, thermal, reliability, and firmware teams to bring robust solutions from concept through manufacturing.

• Contribute to product features, design, and vision using experience and creativity.
• Design detailed power electronic systems (10W‑10kW) including DC/DC converters, offline isolated supplies, and inverters, selecting topology, semiconductors, magnetics, schematics, layout, EMC, and safety.
• Develop verification and validation test plans for components and full systems.
• Bring up and test systems to validate functionality, optimize performance, and evaluate critical characteristics.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, reliability, and firmware engineers to optimize the product.
• Own the power conversion system from specification through design, prototype, validation, and manufacturing.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in power electronics; M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
• Deep understanding of active/passive component losses and mitigation strategies.
• Experience designing high-efficiency, high-density converters using wide-bandgap devices.
• Familiarity with various topologies (two-level, multilevel, soft-switching) and ability to select/design optimal ones.
• Knowledge of sensor design for real-time converter parameter measurement in noisy environments.
• Expertise in magnetics design, core material selection, winding optimization, and insulation strategies.
• EMC design and optimization for PCB layout and filter design.
• Ability to create schematics and perform layout design/review for power conversion.
• Strong lab skills with oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, sources, loads, handling high voltage/current and noise.
• Experience with high voltage, current, and power.
• Ability to simulate power converters and familiarity with simulation tools.
• Knowledge of global safety and EMC certifications and code compliance.
• Prior work in solar, energy storage, or EV/EV-charging industries.
• Familiarity with embedded control, microcontroller programming, and applications.
• Understanding of mechanical and thermal considerations.
