The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems within an assigned facility. This role often serves as the sole engineering presence on site and may include supervising maintenance personnel depending on the size and complexity of the property.
Daily duties encompass overseeing system performance, conducting preventive maintenance, and responding to emergencies such as fire, evacuation, or equipment failure. The engineer coordinates maintenance activities with external contractors, manages inventory, and develops building‑specific procedures to maximize system reliability and lifespan.
The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for completion of an apprenticeship or trade program, and at least five years of relevant experience operating commercial MEP systems. Appropriate trade licenses, a universal EPA refrigerant certification, a valid driver’s license, and basic computer proficiency are essential.
Work is performed in a professional office setting but also involves travel between properties and hands‑on tasks that demand lifting up to 50 lb, climbing, stooping, and the use of rigging equipment. Clear communication, the ability to read technical drawings, and adherence to safety and dress code policies are expected.
Cushman & Wakefield offers a competitive compensation package that includes health, vision, dental, retirement plans, and other benefits, along with a commitment to equal employment opportunity and accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
