Mobile Wastewater Operator

Description

• Perform critical testing of facility operations (pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc.) to monitor system condition.
• Complete Discharge Monitoring Reports as required by facility permits.
• Perform general preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment (blower oil, filter and belt changes, pull and inspect submersible pumps, etc.).
• Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations.
• Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance.
• Assist in preparing monthly written operating reports based on operation/maintenance records for client, employer, or regulatory agency.
• Inform supervisor promptly of plant problems, upsets, expansions, repairs, etc.
• Follow EH&S policies, report safety hazards, and work conscientiously.
• Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.
• Discuss plant operations professionally with employer, client, visitors, or regulatory personnel.
• Collect required samples, log them accurately, submit to laboratory, and review results to ensure permit compliance.
• Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities.
• Assist maintenance personnel with removal of pumps, blowers, motors, valves, etc.
• Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
• Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route.
• Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.
• Perform confined space entry when required after training.
• Participation in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

Requirements

Summary: The Mobile Wastewater Operator serves the Santa Cruz, CA service area. In this position, you will monitor and adjust treatment processes to ensure compliance with permits and regulatory agencies. The operator collects and records data and wastewater samples, performs preventative maintenance on equipment per manuals, and must hold at least a CA Grade 2 wastewater treatment license. The role requires an independent, well‑organized self‑starter who can manage their schedule to meet assigned site coverage requirements.

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of wastewater experience.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency situations.
• Valid CA driver’s license.
• CA Grade 2 or higher wastewater license required.
• Preferred experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
