Engineer in Training, Pipe Strategies

• Track and assess incoming planning inquiries related to development within the City of Edmonton.
• Managing the boundary condition process, including tracking and maintaining future hydraulic models.
• Compile and interpret data, summarizing findings for internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead projects through the Capital Delivery Model (CDM) process.
• Conducting hydraulic network analyses and preparing boundary condition submissions to support development applications.
• Ensure delivery of optimal results aligned with performance metrics.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling analysis to inform long-term planning.
• Reviewing and responding to Land Development Applications (LDAs) in partnership with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Communicate and coordinate clearly with development community stakeholders.
• Collaborating with the development community to support and optimize the growth of water and wastewater networks.
• Lead the generation of water boundary condition requests (under supervision of a qualified engineer), supplying external consultants with hydraulic capacity data for network connection points.
• Analyze, query, and map data outputs using ArcGIS.
• Provide input and support for the Long-Term Plan.
• Support the development and maintenance of future hydraulic models.
• Support the review and response to Land Development Applications (LDAs).
• Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the potable water network.
• Review hydraulic network analyses submitted by external consultants.
• Participate in hydraulic modelling training as needed.
• Create project documentation including Pre-Project Requests (PPRs) and Capital Project Justifications (CPJs).

EPCOR Water Services is seeking a motivated Engineer in Training (EIT), Pipe Strategies to join our One Water Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of Edmonton’s water and wastewater infrastructure.

• Basic understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic principles.
• To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
• The referred candidate must mention the referring employee’s name at the time of application.
• Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS), Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
• Clear and concise report writing abilities.
• Capacity to offer innovative approaches and design recommendations that improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software such as Synergi Water and Mike Urban.
• Demonstrates humility, a continuous improvement mindset, and a strong sense of purpose.

• Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Environmental, Civil, Chemical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
• A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
• Knowledge of data management techniques and ability to interpret engineering drawings, drainage plans, and technical reports.
• The referral must be documented during the recruitment process before the candidate is hired.
• Proficiency in engineering applications such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and DRAINS.
• Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
• Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Quick learner with adaptability to changing conditions and priorities.
• Strong critical thinking skills to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation within 5 years.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
