Description

Key responsibilities include providing technical expertise for transportation and municipal projects, conducting traffic engineering and operations analysis, and supporting the development of new business opportunities. The candidate will prepare technical proposals, collaborate with other project managers, and actively contribute to project execution and client engagements.

• Lead traffic operations, corridor, traffic impact, multimodal studies, and comprehensive plans.
• Perform traffic engineering calculations, analysis, and design independently.
• Write technical specifications, reports, and correspondence for diverse audiences.
• Serve as engineer-of-record for traffic and transportation designs, including control, signals, signing, pavement marking, and ITS.
• Collaborate with technicians to produce complete engineering plans.
• Conduct independent checks of design work from other team members.
• Mentor and oversee less experienced team members.
• Meet project deadlines and deliver within scheduled timeframes.
• Manage project budgets and schedules effectively.
• Participate in business development and marketing for traffic services.
• Prepare technical proposals for project pursuits with project managers and market leaders.
• Contribute to project pursuits by interviewing for traffic‑related projects.
• Attend transportation team, management, and company meetings and seminars as appropriate.
• Assist in developing budgets for traffic engineering components.
• Hire and recruit traffic staff as approved by the Sector Leader.
• Communicate effectively with the public in meetings, notifications, and informational settings.
• Exercise independent judgment and initiative in decision‑making.
• Follow company handbook and safety policies.
• Work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs.
• Travel and overnight stays may be required; work overtime near submission deadlines.

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a Professional Engineer license (or can obtain one in ND and MN within six months), and PTOE certification, with at least five years of traffic engineering and transportation planning experience. Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills are required, along with proficiency in traffic modeling software (e.g., Synchro, Vissim), AutoCAD/Civil‑3D, and Microsoft Office, and a valid driver’s license.

The role may require occasional travel, overtime, and out‑of‑town stays, with physical tasks such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds during construction observation or surveying. Employees must adhere to company policies, safety procedures, and maintain professional involvement in industry organizations and community leadership programs.
