Job Summary: Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets in compliance with dig laws. Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and electronic locating equipment. Mark utilities with flags or paint, prepare reports, forms, and memos, and take photos of each located line. Investigate and document excavations that cause utility damage, and use a cell‑phone app to record marks, store photos, and complete required documentation. Participate in an on‑call rotation.
Status: Full‑time employee. Relevant work experience: at least 2 years of locator experience is required.
Job Requirements include knowledge of best locate practices and 811 law, ability to read utility maps and engineering drawings, and maintenance of clean, tobacco‑free equipment and vehicles. Candidates must locate utilities using multiple methods, follow written and oral instructions, maintain small‑ to medium‑sized equipment and trucks, complete paperwork, and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. Additional expectations are attention to detail, ability to work in all weather conditions, willingness to travel 75% or more, strong troubleshooting skills, passing a drug screen, a valid driver’s license with DOT physical, flexible scheduling and overtime, and punctual attendance.
