The role involves building, positioning, and dismantling wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, following sketches, blueprints, or company standards.
Typically three or more years of documented field experience in the chosen craft discipline is required, with the ability to read and interpret instructions, plan, and perform work activities independently. Candidates must hold NCCER journeyman certification, and may advance to a Leadman role, providing leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers while supporting the foreman.
A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with prior experience in the field, is typically required. The candidate should possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures, rely on instructions and established guidelines, and work under immediate supervision without the need for independent judgment. Reporting is generally to a supervisor or manager.
The position demands constant standing (60%) with occasional walking (20%) and sitting (20%). Physical tasks include lifting up to 50 lb, carrying 40 lb, and applying forces of 70 ft‑lb for pushing and pulling. Workers must frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle tools, and perform fine finger movements.
