Plumbers work under a Journeyman or Lead Plumber to install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems on commercial and industrial construction projects. They handle a variety of pipe materials, set and connect fixtures, assist in rough‑in and trim phases, read basic plans, and safely operate hand and power tools. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area, they follow strict PPE and safety procedures and document work with photos and checklists.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation, and be able to lift 50–75 lb while working on ladders, at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor conditions. A strong willingness to learn, follow direction, work safely as part of a team, and pass a background check and drug screening is also required.
New plumbers can start their careers with paid, hands‑on training alongside experienced Journeymen and Lead Plumbers. The program covers rough‑in, finish work, service diagnostics, jobsite safety, and basic construction drawing interpretation, while providing hours toward licensure and a clear path to Journeyman status.
Upchurch offers a competitive salary based on experience, health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off and holiday pay, and opportunities for professional development and certification assistance. These benefits support employee well‑being and career growth.
