The Engineering Director will be responsible for leading and managing three core technical teams: Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Design, Climate Change Engineers (CCE), and Energy Services. This is a strategic leadership role, accountable for departmental performance, team development, client delivery, and commercial success.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of revenue-generating engineering work.
- Develop and maintain technical partnerships that support growth and innovation.
- Provide clear leadership across all engineering functions, aligned with organisational objectives.
- Lead the planning, forecasting, and delivery of the M&E Design, CCE, and Energy Services departments.
- Conduct regular one-to-ones and performance reviews; support ongoing training and development.
- Oversee technical consultancy projects including M&E surveys, EV infrastructure, Solar PV, and related design and site services.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies, schemes, and regulatory changes (e.g. PSDS, LCSF, HDP, ESOS, CCA & CCL) and translate this into service offerings.
- Maintain alignment with HR and people policies to ensure a positive and compliant working culture.
- Inspire, coach, and mentor team members to deliver exceptional service and develop professionally.
- Own and deliver departmental budgets, ensuring financial control and profitability.
- Guide clients through complex M&E requirements, from feasibility to operation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other business units to ensure seamless delivery and innovation.

This role requires regular client engagement, project leadership, and input into future service development to ensure the consultancy remains at the forefront of the evolving energy landscape.
The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strong commercial acumen, leading service delivery across a broad range of engineering and consultancy disciplines including M&E design (RIBA stages 1–7), decarbonisation planning, site-based engineering activities, and renewable energy infrastructure.
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational abilities
- Ideally Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment with evolving priorities
- Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering or technical discipline
- Working knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements
- Track record of delivering complex engineering or construction projects
- Significant experience in energy reduction, building services design, or engineering consultancy
- Experience in managing multi-phase projects including design, CDM, and cost control
- High attention to detail, particularly in design and technical review
- Membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g. CIBSE, IET) preferred
- Deep technical understanding of M&E design and engineering services
- Strong commercial and financial planning skills
- Clear communicator, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences
Benefits
Salary: Up to £95,000 + car allowance + bonus + benefits
