Assistant Corporate Controller

Description

Empower Brands is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee the day‑to‑day functions of the General Ledger and Accounts Payable teams. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this role ensures the accuracy and completeness of financial information, compliance with US GAAP, and a strong control environment while serving as a strategic bridge between the Controller and functional departments.

• Supervise 4 direct reports and 18 total associates, handling hiring, performance reviews, and professional development.
• Own month‑end close, managing revenue recognition, leases, fixed assets, debt, bad‑debt reserves, intercompany accounting, receivables, corporate accruals, and complex journal entries.
• Evaluate business transactions for proper accounting treatment and conduct technical accounting research.
• Provide training and development for self and team, set clear priorities, boost morale, and create growth opportunities.
• Maintain and update accounting policies, researching current and upcoming guidance.
• Coordinate external audit activities, supply documentation, and address audit findings.
• Identify and implement process improvements, standardizing and documenting controls.

Requirements

• Operate effectively in a high‑growth environment, balancing individual contributor and cross‑functional team roles.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 606.
• Strong understanding of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing financial transactions.
• Excellent time‑management and organizational skills; flexible to shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Proficient in NetSuite, OneStream, BlackLine, with intermediate Excel skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in financial reporting or corporate accounting; Big 4 experience preferred.
• At least 2 years of leadership experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
