This role assists in scheduling technician work, monitors a staff of designers/technicians, and originates and checks layout and design drawings for structural wood products and other items manufactured or supplied by the company.
Key duties include collaborating with outside sales personnel and customers to complete high‑quality structures, assigning work to technicians, making recommendations on hires, promotions, terminations and performance evaluations, maintaining records of team activity, developing drawings from architectural sketches, and communicating project progress to management.
The position also reviews and modifies drawings prepared by less experienced technicians, contacts building designers for clarification, analyzes technical data to ensure designs meet functional, performance and code specifications, prepares repair drawings for engineers, and enforces BFS panel design standards.
Acting as a team leader, the incumbent directs less‑experienced technicians, makes staffing decisions and ensures all designers and panel designs conform to established standards.
Minimum qualifications are an associate’s degree (or equivalent) combined with six months to one year of related experience, and proficiency with PrimeCad, AutoCAD, MS Word and MS Excel.
Core competencies include the ability to read and interpret technical documents, respond to customer inquiries, write speeches and articles, present information to senior leadership, and apply mathematical concepts such as probability, geometry and ratios.
The work environment requires frequent standing and sitting, occasional walking, the ability to lift up to 50 lb, and the use of close and color vision, in both typical office settings and variable outdoor locations.
