Description

The Payroll Manager will direct and manage all in‑house payroll operations for three to five business units, covering up to 2,000 employees. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while supporting team members in their day‑to‑day work. Candidates should reside in the Mountain or Pacific time zones or be willing to work hours that align with those regions.

• Manage the payroll team across three to five business units.
• Oversee payroll processing for up to 2,000 employees, including checks, ACH, tax payments, registrations, deductions, W‑2s and required reports.
• Support timekeeping and ensure compliance with union reporting and payment requirements.
• Lead payroll automation initiatives in partnership with IT to deliver timely solutions.
• Assist the Director of Payroll in establishing audits and internal controls.
• Document payroll processes and identify opportunities for improvement or automation.
• Provide leadership to achieve business‑process goals and resolve GL posting questions with finance.
• Coach, mentor, and develop team members through professional and technical training plans.
• Create technical reports, metrics, and specifications for trend analysis and remediation.
• Collaborate effectively with payroll and project teams during system upgrades and implementations.
• Provide employer‑provided medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, Employee Assistance Program, and accident & illness coverage.

Requirements

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources or equivalent experience.
• Possess at least five years of multi‑state payroll experience with strong payroll law knowledge and prior supervisory experience.
• Manage payroll for a minimum of 1,000 employees; union payroll experience preferred.
• Demonstrate advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, formula creation, and test data handling.
• Exhibit a strong systems background with experience implementing payroll software such as Dayforce, Sage, Deltek, or Spectrum Systems.
• Show proven leadership and influencing abilities to successfully lead projects and teams.
• Maintain a customer‑focused attitude with strong verbal and written communication skills.
