The Facility Electronics Technician installs, repairs, and maintains complex electronic systems throughout the correctional facility, including control circuits, lighting controls, motor controls, door controls, and camera systems. The position also implements and maintains security electronic equipment, controls, and automation systems.
Key duties include installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic systems such as control circuits, lighting, locking, motor, fire alarm, surveillance, perimeter detection, and door controls. The technician cuts, splices, and makes single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber optic connections, updates facility drawings to reflect new installations or redesigns, and interprets standard plans, blueprints, and electronic schematics using ladder logic as needed.
Assignments are prioritized based on urgency and scheduled needs, with work orders completed in accordance with company standards, building codes, and applicable procedures. The incumbent prepares and maintains standard operating records and reports, processes all documentation promptly, and ensures compliance with quality and safety specifications.
The role provides supervision and tracking of inmates/residents assigned to the Maintenance Department, escorts them as required, and inspects for items that could be used as contraband, weapons, or escape implements. Proper storage, use, and safe disposal of tools, supplies, and equipment are maintained, and all tools are kept in working order.
The technician assists other skilled trade workers on multi‑trade projects, coordinates electrical activities and updates with the FSC Real Estate department, facility staff, agencies, and external contractors, and responds to emergency situations on an on‑call basis. Domestic U.S. travel may be required.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (associate’s degree preferred), two years of experience in instrumentation, electronics, and control systems, and the ability to read electrical and electronic blueprints. Required skills include using measurement instruments, knowledge of PLCs, IP‑camera systems, and computers, detail‑orientation, proficiency in Microsoft Office, a valid driver’s license, and a minimum age of 21.
