The Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) Engineer will lead drainage design, water‑resources engineering, and hydraulic modeling for complex rail projects, including Class I railroads, commuter rail, and transit authorities. The role involves creating engineering solutions, preparing technical reports, supporting permitting, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure regulatory compliance.
Zephyr Rail’s recent projects include hydraulic modeling and culvert design for LA Metro, Metrolink, CS X, UPRR, and BNSF corridors; flood‑plain mitigation for new rail bridges in FEMA‑regulated areas; stormwater management for rail siding extensions and yard capacity upgrades; drainage analysis for at‑grade crossing upgrades; and emergency assessments of failed culverts and storm damage.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering (or a related field) and have at least five years of H&H experience, including seven years on Class I railroad, commuter rail, or light‑rail projects. A California Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) credential is required, while a California PE license is highly preferred. Proficiency with H&H modeling tools, MicroStation/AutoCAD, and knowledge of railroad drainage standards, FEMA guidelines, and permitting processes is essential.
