Derive soil parameters for the foundation design of LNG & petrochemical plants
Interpret ground investigation data from site investigation
Report to the Civil Department Manager the Geotechnical Engineer will be working in collaboration with foundation, structural engineers, and other design disciplines to provide technical inputs to a multi-disciplinary project team. This may involve working on multiple projects as the need arises
Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures under the supervision of senior team members
Calculate pile capacity, pile group response, pile drivability, pile group efficiency, soil-pile-structure interaction analysis
Develop a basic knowledge of the interactions between the departments
Work with Geotechnic engineers and CSA engineers and team on projects
Perform Conceptual & FEED Studies and detailed analyses and designs as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards
Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations
Calculate gravity base and shallow foundations bearing pressure, settlement, sliding resistance, retaining walls, horizontal-vertical-moment interaction
The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
Develop a basic knowledge of MDR's business units
Develop a basic understanding of MDR's business and the customers it serves
Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to: The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yardsThe replacement of colleagues during illness and holidaysThe provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirableThe managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area

Knowledge of offshore foundation design methods would be beneficial
Communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understanding
Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
3-8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design
Strong Health and Safety Culture
The geotechnical and foundation work handled by the Discipline includes the design of deep and shallow foundations for onshore facilities, but knowledge of offshore foundation design would also be beneficial
Familiar with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
Preferably a Chartered member (or actively planning to become Chartered) of the Institute of Civil Engineers or a similar professional engineering society
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering
Demonstrate knowledge and experience of ground investigation methods (sample boreholes, cone penetration tests, pressure meter, etc.) with the preparation of laboratory testing programs for foundation design
Is familiar with the use of codes and standards
Seismic and dynamic soil structure interaction including machine foundations, seismic slope stability, and seismic hazard analysis
Experience in numerical modelling and geotechnical software including FE analysis, SLOPEW, and ABAQUS is preferred but not essential
Knowledge of many basic design techniques and analysis methods
