The role provides general people services administration and can develop across talent acquisition, learning, assurance, delivery and people advice. Initially the focus is on supporting the Director of People & Culture and the wider People Services team with administration, coordination, project support and risk, performance and standards reporting. The position contributes to employee engagement and overall service delivery.
- Provide first‑line HR support across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll and system administration.
- Increase self‑service capability through coaching and guidance on policies, processes and systems.
- Escalate complex queries via agreed channels to ensure effective resolution and compliance with service standards.
- Deliver administrative and transactional support while meeting service level agreements.
- Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and third‑party providers to ensure a customer‑first service approach.
- Record all calls and queries, scanning documents to employee records for reporting and tracking.
- Monitor and adhere to SLAs, escalating risks to service performance and compliance.
- Ensure data integrity by identifying and correcting data quality issues.
- Process and maintain People Services collateral such as letters, procedures and toolkits aligned with the People Strategy.
- Plan, prioritize and check work for completeness and accuracy.
- Provide accurate and timely people data to support decision‑making.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regulatory, legal and system requirements and promote compliance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of People Services processes, systems and change projects.
- Respond flexibly to changing work priorities and support effective operation of the service.
- Ensure information security, data protection, health and safety requirements are met.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of transactional HR support within a diverse, unionised environment, strong planning and organisational abilities, and experience working to service‑level agreements. Proficiency with HR systems and Microsoft Office, excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team are essential. Resilience, a customer‑first mindset and a drive to improve processes are also required.
- Proven transactional HR support experience in a diverse, unionised organisation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in a shared service or telephone‑based operation.
- Strong attention to detail and methodical problem‑solving approach.
- Resilience and tenacity to see issues through to conclusion.
- Customer‑first ethos with ability to quickly identify colleague needs.
- Excellent planning, organisational and prioritisation skills to meet SLA targets.
- Ability to propose solutions and take ownership of issues.
- Proficiency with HR systems and Microsoft Office suite.
- CIPD qualification or willingness to work towards it (desirable).
