The employee monitors and controls vertebrate and invertebrate pests that affect human health or urban forest health within city limits. The role assists in supervising, leading, planning and scheduling work teams across various pest‑control programs and reports to the Supervisor of Pest Control.
The position requires knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal legislation related to pest control, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Integrated Pest Management principles. Candidates must be able to conduct best‑practice research, analyze data, schedule crews efficiently and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
A post‑secondary degree in biological sciences, wildlife management, IPM or a related field is required, together with certification in WHMIS and Boat Safe. Candidates need at minimum two years of experience in vertebrate and invertebrate pest management, tree identification and disease diagnostics, as well as supervision experience and at least five years of safe firearm use.
A valid Class 5 driver’s licence, a Firearm Possession & Acquisition Certification and the appropriate pesticide‑applicator licences (Landscape, Mosquito & Biting Fly, Structural) are mandatory. The role may involve work in all weather conditions, various shift times and the handling of pesticide products and wild vertebrates.
Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory criminal‑record check and proof of education. Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills and knowledge.
