The Hospital Admissions Representative role at Guidehouse’s MLK Community Hospital involves obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information, assigning accurate medical record and account numbers, and supporting accurate billing and clinical data. The position is full‑time, with shifts from 5 pm to 1:30 am, working every other weekend, rotating holidays, and may be adjusted based on patient census.
Key responsibilities include interviewing patients, gathering complete demographic and financial details from various sources, securing signatures on legal consents and insurance forms, and completing pre‑certifications, referrals, or deposit collections. The representative enters all data into multiple computer systems, documents any incomplete admissions, and updates patient files with authorization numbers.
The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 0–1 year of experience in a medical or high‑volume customer‑service environment, and proficiency with data‑entry tools and online insurance platforms. Candidates must hold a current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or obtain it within 90 days, and complete AVADE training within 30 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications include two years of emergency‑department admitting experience, a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute, strong Microsoft Office skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff in a high‑stress environment.
Compensation ranges from $38,000 to $63,000 annually, based on skills, experience, and other factors.
