The technician will be at the forefront of commissioning transmission and distribution substation additions or modifications, ensuring systems are installed, functional and energized correctly while coordinating apparatus and relay testing, functional tests and documentation of as‑left/as‑built station status.
The role supports the Lead Technician by preparing work, isolation and functional test plans, performing comprehensive testing on energized “brownfield” equipment, developing isolation procedures for equipment removal, and providing field engineering assistance during wiring and verification against design drawings.
- Assist Lead Technician with work plans, isolation plans and functional test plans.
- Perform testing and commissioning on energized “in‑service” transmission and distribution equipment.
- Develop and execute isolation procedures for removal and de‑commissioning of protective relays, panels, batteries, breakers, transformers, etc.
- Communicate technical information to internal and external customers and both technical and non‑technical personnel.
- Test substation protection devices, verify voltage/current inputs, conduct trip testing and functional verification of control systems and alarms.
- Identify and resolve design errors; witness or perform critical DC functional trip tests prior to energization.
- Provide field engineering support for wiring of protective relaying and control systems, verifying against design drawings.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise on‑site testing and commissioning activities as defined by project scope.
- Apply human performance tools as directed and engage in ongoing training on relevant topics.
