This position reports to the Building Official and supervises, evaluates, trains, and coordinates building inspectors performing inspection work in all phases of construction, alteration, and repair for compliance with plans, specifications, and state and local codes. The role also performs complex inspections and related duties.

- Perform field inspections of industrial, commercial and residential buildings at various construction stages to ensure code compliance.
- Conduct inspections for difficult enforcement or public relations issues as directed by the Building Official.
- Supervise, assign, and layout work of construction inspectors for residential, commercial, industrial, and other building inspections.
- Check construction methods and material quality on site.
- Investigate and resolve complaints.
- Recommend corrections and confer with contractors to resolve code violations.
- Train, instruct, and evaluate inspectors on inspection procedures, code interpretation, and departmental policies.
- Provide plan checking services for minor projects, including residential additions, accessory structures, and commercial/industrial tenant improvements.
- Detect deviations from plans, specifications, or standard practices.
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy with frequent interruptions.
- Maintain all licenses and certificates as a condition of employment.
- Travel to client or job sites; work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime throughout the year.

- Hold ICC Combination Building Inspector – Residential and Commercial certification.
- ICC Residential Plans Examiner or Commercial Building Examiner certification preferred.
- Minimum 10 years building inspection experience (private or public) preferred.
- At least 5 years experience as a Building Inspector II or equivalent.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Extensive physical exertion during on‑site inspections, including standing, bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, climbing.
- Physical flexibility and dexterity; ability to lift up to 35 lb.
- Periodic work in elevated, noisy, or dark environments.
- Extended periods sitting at a computer.
- Fast‑paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.

The salary range for this position is $35–$50 USD.
