The Senior Manager – System Design & Costing (BESS) will own end-to-end system architecture, technical configuration, and cost modelling for BESS projects, covering battery systems, PCS, balance-of-system design & equipment. This role acts as the single owner of technical and cost assumptions during the bid and proposal stage, ensuring that solutions offered are technically compliant, commercially accurate, and executable.
Define overall system architecture for BESS projects across utility-scale and C&I applications
Build internal capability in BESS system design and costing
Review and approve SLDs, layouts, and system-level design documentation
Ensure smooth technical handover from bid stage to execution
Work closely with sourcing and procurement teams to validate vendor pricing
Identify key technical, execution, and commercial risks related to design and POI integration
Develop internal design standards, costing templates, and technical playbook
Support sales teams with margin analysis and sensitivity scenarios
Drive value engineering initiatives to optimise system cost while meeting performance and safety requirements
Create cost benchmarks for different project sizes, grid conditions, and use cases
Provide recommendations on risk mitigation and pricing strategy
Mentor junior engineers and pre-sales team members
Prepare and validate BOMs, cost sheets, and pricing inputs for bids
Develop standard system configurations and reference designs for faster bid turnaround
Support execution teams during early project stages to maintain design intent and cost assumptions
Experience with project management tools and methodologies
At least 3–5 years of direct experience in BESS system design, solution engineering, or pre-sales
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Electrical systems, protection philosophy, and grid interconnection up to POI
PCS selection and sizing
Knowledge Management & Team Development
Strong exposure to system integration and costing up to the Point of Injection
Battery technologies (LFP / NMC), degradation, and lifecycle modelling
Transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, and auxiliary systems up to the POI
Electrical systems and infrastructure from PCS up to the POI
8–12 years of experience in power systems, renewables, or energy infrastructure
BESS equipment and auxiliaries
Own sizing philosophy, design assumptions, and technical compliance for bids
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Power / Energy Engineering (Master’s preferred)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
