Operator/Operative (Treatment, Network, Network Maintenance & Repair, Leakage Maintenance & Repair) - Liffey South (South Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Wicklow & Kildare)

Description

The Asset Operations function is the cornerstone of service delivery, responsible for strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for both water and wastewater operations nationwide. It manages the majority of operational expenditure while protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards.

The role covers operation and maintenance of treatment plants and the water‑wastewater network across a defined geographic area. It includes routine maintenance, asset inspections, responding to SCADA alerts, supporting customers, and providing out‑of‑hours and standby cover as needed.

• Support operation of water and wastewater treatment processes and network assets.
• Operate, inspect, monitor, test and calibrate treatment equipment and network components.
• Conduct routine asset checks, raise work orders in Maximo and record quality parameters.
• Respond to SCADA/telemetry alerts following established procedures.
• Implement process optimisation recommendations to improve performance and efficiency.
• Accurately record and report water treatment data using provided technology systems.
• Take water and wastewater samples, perform laboratory analyses and document results.
• Supervise and ensure proper execution of maintenance and repair activities.
• Perform general maintenance on sewers, rising mains, storm overflows, pump stations and related facilities.
• Provide customer support, communicate issues and resolutions, and assist the Customer Contact Centre.
• Maintain stocks of consumables, chemicals, spare parts and critical equipment.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures, conduct risk assessments and use appropriate PPE.
• Operate Irish Water vehicles, including heavy‑goods vehicles when required, in compliance with safety policies.
• Follow information security policies to protect confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours and standby duties as needed.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least secondary‑level education or equivalent experience, a full clean Irish Category B driving licence and the ability to work safely in hazardous environments. Strong IT skills, good literacy, problem‑solving ability and experience in water/wastewater systems or utilities are required, with relevant certifications considered an advantage.

Uisce Éireann is establishing a national panel for current and future vacancies, with applications accepted for the next 12 months. Successful applicants will be placed on a salary band starting at €36,640, and must reside within a reasonable distance of their assigned work area to meet out‑of‑hours requirements.

• Hold a full, clean Irish Category B driving licence (additional licences advantageous).
• Possess secondary‑level education or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrate ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Show proficiency with IT systems, Microsoft Office and experience with SCADA or automated control systems.
• Have strong problem‑solving, literacy and communication skills.
