Senior Mechanical Engineer, Water Sector

Description

You will contribute to key frameworks such as Southern Water’s £3.7 billion Capital Delivery Programme (Tier 1 non‑infrastructure water and wastewater projects and infrastructure routes), South West Water’s Engineering Consultancy Services Framework, and Wessex Water’s Capital Delivery Partner Framework. These long‑term contracts run through AMP8 and AMP9, offering security and variety.

Joining an award‑winning multidisciplinary team that earned the IChemE Global Water Award 2023, you will work alongside civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions. The role provides opportunities to influence flagship projects across the UK, Ireland and globally while supporting community and environmental outcomes.

• Produce feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and construction support for water projects.
• Create design drawings, select mechanical plant equipment, and prepare specifications.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, process, and mechanical engineering teams nationwide.
• Deliver high‑quality technical output, contribute to bids, and interface with clients and partners.
• Manage project budgets, programmes, and quality targets.
• Design mechanical installations such as pumping stations, screens, grit removal plants, penstocks, valves, and odour control systems.
• Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
• Develop plant layouts, technical specifications, equipment schedules, lifting strategies, and P&IDs.
• Perform head‑loss calculations, pump system analysis, and pump selection.

Requirements

• Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE).
• Proven ability to produce engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
• Hands‑on experience delivering water or wastewater engineering solutions.
• Access to industry‑leading technology and global project experience.
