As the Senior Team Lead for Controls within Vanderlande’s Airport and Parcel Solutions (APS) business unit, you will guide the design and implementation of control systems for large‑scale baggage handling and parcel handling installations. Reporting to the Project Manager Engineering, you will manage a team of controls engineers and ensure seamless integration of hardware and software across global airport and parcel hub projects.
Your responsibilities include allocating resources to projects, maintaining day‑to‑day planning, handling operational escalations, and overseeing hiring and subcontracting. You will develop the competencies of your team, analyse training needs, execute training plans, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance departmental KPI performance. Additionally, you will monitor and mitigate project risks while validating system performance through thorough FAT/SAT testing.
- Lead and manage a team of 15+ controls engineers, handling escalations, hiring, subcontracting and resource planning
- Develop team competencies, conduct training and drive continuous improvement within the controls department
- Oversee design, integration and FAT/SAT testing of Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC‑based control systems for BHS and parcel projects
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software teams to align control designs with project timelines and budgets
- Monitor project risks and opportunities, ensuring delivery on time, within budget and meeting KPI targets
- Implement standardisation and process improvements to increase efficiency and reliability across projects
- Provide technical expertise during commissioning and ensure smooth hand‑over to customers
- Travel internationally as needed for project oversight and team management

Deep technical knowledge of Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, as well as experience with hardware‑software integration for BHS and parcel solutions, is required. You will also champion standardisation, process optimisation, and provide expert support during commissioning and hand‑over phases.
The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electronic, electrical or instrumentation engineering and 10‑12 years of PLC programming experience, preferably with Siemens, within airport material handling or parcel logistics environments. Experience managing a team of 15 + engineers and delivering projects internationally is expected, with occasional short‑term travel for oversight and team management.
