Description

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $141,000 to $177,000. Reporting to the Vice President of Networks and Corporate Purchasing, the Director of RG&E Networks Purchasing will develop and implement sourcing strategies across RG&E and all purchasing categories. The role collaborates with the executive team to set targets, metrics, timelines, and plans, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory strategies to maintain an uninterrupted supply of goods and services for critical projects and daily operations.

As the central purchasing contact for RG&E, the director coordinates business needs with purchasing activities, supports project execution, resolves complex challenges, and identifies solutions for unique requirements. The position also interfaces with regulatory stakeholders, supporting rate cases, regulatory interrogatories, and hearings, while leading innovative, commercially focused solutions that leverage value through strategic sourcing and procurement initiatives.

• Develop multi‑year sourcing strategies for complex purchases with a global perspective and ensure service continuity.
• Set functional standards and procurement performance expectations, leading partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to drive business impact.
• Lead cross‑functional contract and pricing negotiations, handle escalations, and work with legal counsel to mitigate risk.
• Design and implement programs that improve team performance and achieve annual sourcing goals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Drive organizational change and innovation by sharing best practices and launching improvement initiatives.
• Represent the company in rate‑case hearings, management audits, and other external matters, and coordinate purchasing activities with business needs.
• Direct sourcing team efforts through demand analysis, market analysis, competitive bidding, bid evaluation, and negotiations.
• Establish annual sourcing performance targets and monitor progress through measurement programs.
• Apply creative methodologies to strategic procurement, maintain up‑to‑date commodity cost records, and analyze trends to strengthen competitive positioning.
• Produce and present reports to Networks, Purchasing leadership, and senior management.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, forward‑thinking leader who proactively identifies improvement opportunities and implements solutions that enhance processes and results. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related fields, combined with extensive experience in purchasing, supply planning, sourcing, or manufacturing, and advanced knowledge of supply‑chain methodologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are essential.

Preferred qualifications include prior experience in the energy industry, advanced certifications such as CMP or C.P.S.M., and a Master’s degree with at least eight years of relevant experience. The role may involve travel to business meetings and supplier visits, and the successful candidate will maintain close relationships with key stakeholders while supporting compliance and emergency response responsibilities across Avangrid’s network and corporate functions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related field plus 10+ years experience (or Master’s degree plus 7+ years experience).
• Advanced knowledge of supply‑chain methodologies, models, and procedures.
• Proven leadership, communication, organizational, and influencing abilities in a matrixed global environment.
• Experience in category management for various materials and services, preferably utility categories such as electric and gas construction, vegetation management, transformers, etc.
• Strong analytical, project management, negotiation, presentation, and data‑driven decision‑making skills.
• Ability to manage complex situations, multiple projects, and deadlines while maintaining high customer service orientation.
• Technical expertise in contract writing, sourcing plan development, and negotiation strategy execution.
