Shop Fabricator

Description

• Act as the primary Shop representative in New York, building design‑team relationships and integrating physical modeling.
• Collaborate with designers and experts to produce high‑quality models, mock‑ups, and prototypes for storytelling and decision‑making.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the fabrication workspace, coordinating workflow, equipment, and material readiness.
• Maintain regular communication with Shop Leadership in Dallas for assignments, progress updates, and planning sessions.
• Support modeling and fabrication efforts across all Corgan offices, contributing to a national maker network.
• Mentor colleagues and design teams on making, fabrication techniques, and safe shop practices.
• Assist in maintaining equipment, performing routine checks, and upholding safety and cleanliness standards.
• Explore new technologies, materials, and methods; prototype ideas and provide insights to expand shop capabilities.
• Conduct investigations and physical studies that inform design decisions and foster a culture of experimentation.
• Select appropriate fabrication methodologies based on design intent, material behavior, and project constraints.
• Recommend creative fabrication approaches that clarify design intent and support project storytelling.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Product Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or a related field.
• Possess professional experience with fabrication tools, materials, and shop equipment.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of digital fabrication technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC.
• Exhibit strong communication skills, being receptive to feedback and constructive when providing it.
• Work autonomously in ambiguous environments and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
• Show passion for making, craft, and delivering high‑quality physical experiences with a curiosity‑first mindset.
• Experience in Architecture or Interior Design, computational design, and parametric modeling tools is a plus.
• Proficiency in digital fabrication and 3D modeling software (Rhino, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D print slicers, CAM, etc.) is strongly preferred.
