The role is for a Senior Cable System Design Engineer within the Transmission & Distribution team, responsible for delivering cable system projects across multiple voltage levels for transmission operators, distribution networks and private developers. The position covers the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through detailed engineering, installation supervision and commissioning of on‑shore infrastructure.

Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies to commissioning.
Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs, including route development and burial risk assessments.
Undertake cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability, and EMI analysis.
Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams to ensure integrated solutions.
Conduct third‑party inspections and support FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs and other standards.
Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, HAZID/HAZOPs, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Strong experience in cable system design engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution, with FEED experience.
Experience in regulated, quality‑assured environments, preferably with National Grid.
Knowledge of onshore cable routing, pulling, mechanical forces, burial risk assessments and protection strategies.
Ability to perform electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analyses and cable cleating design.
Experience in quality, inspection & test (QIT) of cables and familiarity with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG‑TP standards.
Proficiency with tools such as CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation software.
Minimum HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field; NG Certified – CDAE desirable.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progression towards chartership is a plus.
