Utility Locators locate underground utilities for clients and property owners in accordance with 811 dig laws, using maps, GIS data, as‑built drawings, and electronic locating equipment. They mark the utilities with flags or paint, capture photos, and record all markings in a cell‑phone app that generates required documentation. The role also involves preparing reports, investigating damage incidents, and participating in an on‑call rotation with extensive travel.
Candidates must have at least two years of locating experience, a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain a DOT physical and pass a drug screen. Required skills include knowledge of 811 regulations, ability to read utility maps, maintain equipment and a tobacco‑free vehicle, complete paperwork, and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. The position demands attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, willingness to work in all weather conditions, and flexibility for varying schedules and overtime.
