Manager, Engineering - Civil & Structural

Description

• Provide functional oversight for all engineering activities, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to project standards.
• Forecast workload and plan engineering resources to meet project demands.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering continuous learning and professional growth.
• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary Civil, Structural, Architectural, and Mechanical design team responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality design solutions for power utility projects across North America.
• Build an inclusive, collaborative team culture that values diverse perspectives and promotes innovation.
• Manage direct reports through goal setting, performance reviews, compensation planning, and career development.
• Drive team growth through proactive recruiting and hiring.
• Identify competency gaps and implement targeted training and development strategies, while championing progressive learning and embedding best practices within the team.

Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering design experience with a proven track record of managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of project management, quality management, human resources practices, and financial and administrative principles.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and deliver clear, compelling presentations.
• Hands-on experience in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Mechanical design for utility substations.
• Exceptional leadership and relationship-building skills, with proven ability to mentor, coach, and inspire teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university, with a Canadian Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration with EGBC.
• In-depth knowledge of Canadian codes and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and CSA standards; familiarity with North American transmission structure design standards.
