Inspect and assesses ground conditions to ensure that the crane can be set up safely.
Inform supervision of any hazardous or dangerous conditions observed before or during crane operations.
Follow appropriate safety procedures and maintain logs of vehicle repair status and working hours per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
Safely manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement safely and according to written, verbal or signal instructions.
Cease crane operations if an unsafe situation or condition is present.
Understand and properly fill out job ticket for customer to accept responsibility for jobsite and billing.
Complies with all applicable federal, state, and company safety laws, guidelines, and best practices.
Properly set up per the manufacturer’s operators manual and company safety guidelines as required to perform job requirements.
Performs safety inspections of crane, wire rope, hooks, slings and rigging.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and properly barricades counterweight tail swing radius.
Work long hours with moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another constantly perform repeating motions with feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers to include walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, climbing, depressing
Assess/monitor weather conditions prior to and during operations.
Properly shutdown/secure the crane when unattended.
Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture.
Operate hydraulic and conventional crawler cranes from 80 to 1200 tons.
Receive direction from riggers and/or site supervision verbally or by hand signals to determine required load movement.
Inspect clearances, overhead lines, and other possible obstructions to ensure there will be no accidents or damage to employees, buildings, loads, or equipment.
Calculate load capacity, determine weight of items to be moved in relation to the maximum capacity of crane based on manufacturers specifications.
Review and follow lift plan for proper loading/unloading of equipment/objects and selecting the appropriate crane confirmation to meet the lift requirements.
Perform routine maintenance, pre- and post-trip inspections along with daily and monthly equipment inspections inspecting cranes for defects and wear; performs necessary repairs or maintenance.
Unload crane accessories from trailer(s) or support vehicle(s).
Direct activities of truck drivers or helpers in setting up and knocking down crane equipment.

3+ years of heavy crane operation required
Ability to wear required and appropriate PPE equipment
Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machinery
Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
Excellent depth perception and reaction time
Current NCCCO or equivalent crane operator certification required
Ability and willingness to travel as required
Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
Ability to pass pre-employment qualifications such as drug test, background check, and/or fit-for-duty test
Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations pertaining to crane operations
Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
Exposure to moderate noise level in the workplace
Able to work non-routine hours, when necessary
Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
Possess valid state license to operate heavy equipment required
Clean motor vehicle record
Ability to operate job related tools
