Cost Engineers are accountable for managing work packages of varying size and complexity, overseeing cost control, and balancing time, risk, change, reporting and scope. They ensure projects meet client objectives, are delivered on schedule and within budget, and adhere to quality standards.
- Tailor cost‑control approaches to client needs and best practice.
- Implement and maintain cost‑control systems tracking budgets, commitments, expenditures and forecasts.
- Collaborate with the Integrated Project Team to establish a robust Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB).
- Develop Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and align them with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) for accurate cost tracking.
- Map cost estimates to the WBS and assign budgets to appropriate work and control packages.
- Apply NEC or FIDIC contract procedures for cost data management and reporting.
- Lead accrual production to ensure timely and accurate Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP).
- Provide cost data for change notes and support forecast updates for Estimate To Complete (ETC).
- Define and enforce cost capture requirements, including work orders and purchase order alignment with CBS.
- Validate supply‑chain data, analyse variances and improve cost forecasting accuracy.
- Communicate cost‑control updates to senior management and influence decision‑making in complex programmes.
- Demonstrate leadership by mentoring the delivery and cost‑control team and fostering an inclusive environment.
