The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will support the execution of federal construction projects within the Acquire–Comply–Execute lifecycle. Reporting to a Project Manager and Program Manager, the APM assists with daily coordination of safety, quality, cost, schedule, and compliance, and partners with functional teams such as Safety/Quality, Finance, HR, Supply Chain, IT/Cyber, and Legal/Compliance.
- Support Project Manager throughout Acquire–Comply–Execute stages.
- Coordinate Integrated Project Teams across Operations, Safety/Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain.
- Attend project meetings, track actions, and prepare documentation.
- Compile artifacts for stage‑gate reviews and maintain auditable records.
- Facilitate communication among internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and partners.
- Prepare client‑facing materials and meeting agendas under guidance.
- Track subcontractor deliverables, RFIs, and submittals for timely approvals.
- Assist with monthly forecasting, cost tracking, trend logs, and variance analysis.
- Ensure cost documentation complies with DCAA audit requirements.
- Identify schedule risks, escalate to Project Manager, and support mitigation planning.
- Maintain compliance with FAR/DFARS, DCAA, CUI protection, and ISO 9001.
- Update site‑specific plans, APP/JHAs, Environmental Plans, and QCPs.
- Manage project risk and opportunity logs, action items, and closeout activities.
- Prepare weekly progress reports, three‑week look‑ahead schedules, and performance metrics (CPI, SPI).
- Upload and version‑control all project documentation in the QGS OPS Platform.
- Develop project management competencies and pursue training, certifications, and mentorship.

The position is a non‑exempt role based in the Midwest (remote across several states) and interfaces with Construction Operations, Safety/Quality, Finance, HR, IT/Cyber, Legal/Compliance, and Preconstruction. Travel up to 50 % of the time, including overnight trips, is required.
Candidates should have 2–4 years of experience supporting federal or commercial construction projects, preferably on contracts valued over $1 million. A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field is preferred, along with PMP or CAPM certification (PMP required for advancement) and OSHA 30. Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, DCAA and basic federal construction compliance is required, as are strong organizational and communication skills.
- 2–4 years experience on federal or commercial construction projects (preferred $1 M+ contracts).
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
- PMP or CAPM certification (PMP required for promotion); OSHA 30 preferred.
- Working knowledge of FAR/DFARS, DCAA, and federal construction compliance.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a matrixed, fast‑paced federal contracting environment.
