Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Project Manager will oversee daily operations of engineering teams, review proposals, supervise budgeting and cost analysis, and identify improvements to deliver higher‑quality products and services. The position is full‑time, with four days in the office and one remote day, and offers advancement opportunities.
- Serve as project manager on mission‑critical projects including new builds, renovations, fit‑outs, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Conduct client‑facing activities such as RFP site visits and proposal writing; plan, execute, and manage internal teams and clients.
- Oversee scope, scheduling, client management, and financial responsibilities for projects.
- Evaluate and improve company processes; provide input across the enterprise.
- Assist project managers at all Bala locations and develop assistant project managers to work independently.
- Act as technical resource for staff and schedule quality‑control reviews to reinforce engineering standards.
- Perform internal peer reviews and contribute to multi‑discipline page turns across offices.
- Schedule page turns prior to major project deliverables and apply sound engineering principles.
- Review workforce projections and align staffing with design schedules.
- Drive ownership, accountability, and culture; engage partners and executives to support firm growth and quality.
- Identify business opportunities and support marketing and business development initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop fees for complex projects and maintain client relationships.
- Grow office market sector volume and footprint.

The New York office is seeking an experienced Mission Critical Project Manager to lead select mission‑critical projects, mentor staff, provide technical expertise, and support sales by cultivating client relationships. The role requires developing new business, managing internal teams, and executing multiple long‑ and short‑duration projects while staying current with MEP design standards and technologies.
- Travel locally in NYC; occasional travel to other Bala offices and infrequent national site visits as required.
- Possess at least ten years of engineering consulting or related experience; hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; PE license preferred.
- Demonstrate strong technical writing, knowledge of building codes, and up‑to‑date MEP design practices for mission‑critical facilities.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and team‑building skills.
