The Rigger must possess knowledge of complex and heavy rigging, crane boom and cable changes, electrical safety, ladder and scaffold safety, lifting machinery, wire rope basics, basic rigging, fire prevention, sizing of chokers, load charts, cutting torches, and blueprint reading. Certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NCCER is highly recommended. The Rigger must understand all safety hazards related to the work and safely use or operate related tools and equipment, and will work in plant operations or construction job‑site settings.
The position requires both physical and mental capabilities. Physically, the Rigger must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry loads, climb and maintain balance on various structures, and work in diverse environmental conditions, including uneven surfaces and adverse weather. Mentally, the Rigger must communicate effectively with supervisors, comprehend and follow written directions, perform basic calculations, make decisions, and maintain attention to detail amid distractions.
