This role is responsible for executing rigorous systems engineering processes to support the design, integration, and management of complex nuclear systems throughout their lifecycles. Working within established model-based systems engineering frameworks, this position ensures all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The Systems Engineer focuses on verifying and validating product requirements according to the systems engineering lifecycle process while maintaining clear documentation of design decisions and system interfaces.
- Lead the execution the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and complete latitude for independent judgement.
- Lead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.
- Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- In collaboration with engineering leadership, set technical direction at the enterprise level through developing and owning technology or discipline specific roadmaps, best practices, and/or design criteria.
- System verification and validation
- Develop and maintain system behavior models using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.
- Configuration management and change control
- Execute systems engineering processes within X-energy's quality management framework.
- Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.
- Work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.
- Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding:
- Support value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.
- Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.
- Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.

- Requirement identification, decomposition, and management

- Logical system architecture development and modeling
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited institution required.
- Experience with systems engineering software tools.
- System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)
- Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role required. A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience. A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience. Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.
- Physical product definition, interface management, and change control

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
Level III: $102,750 - $171,250/Level VI: $166,500 - $277,500
